Hearth: Home Inventory ("Hearth", "the app") is an iPhone app for keeping a record of the appliances and equipment in your home, scheduling their maintenance, and checking your saved items against public product recall data. This policy explains what we collect, why we collect it, where it is stored, and how you can delete it.
Hearth is built and operated by an individual developer, not a company. There is one backend service, described in section 4, and no advertising, analytics, or tracking partners of any kind.
By using the app you agree to this policy. If you do not agree with it, please do not use the app.
xxx@privaterelay.appleid.com. We use that address only to contact you about your account. When you add an appliance or piece of equipment, we store the details you enter or confirm: name, category, brand, model, serial number, room or location, purchase date, price, notes, and UPC. Whatever you type is what we store.
Photos of nameplates and appliances are uploaded directly from your device to Cloudflare R2 object storage, operated by Cloudflare, Inc. (United States). Our API server never receives the image bytes: it issues a presigned upload URL, and afterwards stores the object key that results. Your photos are stored under a per-user prefix, so one user's objects are kept separate from another's.
The maintenance schedules the app creates for your items, the reminders attached to them, and the repair records you enter.
If you allow notifications, we store the device push token issued by Apple Push Notification service (APNs) so that maintenance reminders can be delivered to your device. The token is deleted when you sign out.
A session token is stored on your device in the iOS Keychain to keep you signed in. It is not stored anywhere else.
We do not use your information for advertising, profiling, or tracking.
The backend is a Python (FastAPI) service running on a Tencent Cloud server located in Shanghai, China, reached through a Cloudflare tunnel at hearth.taomindapp.com.
These are the only third parties that process your data, and they process it on our behalf to provide the service. We do not sell your data and we do not share it with anyone else.
If you are located outside China, note that account data is transferred to and stored on servers in China, and photos are stored by Cloudflare in the United States.
The API is deliberately built so that it does not write the following to its logs:
Operational logging is limited to what is needed to run and troubleshoot the service.
Hearth compares the items you save — by brand and category — against the recall database of the US Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC). That database is public US government data. No information about you or your items is sent to the CPSC: the matching runs entirely on our server.
Recall matches are best-effort. A match is not a determination that your specific unit has been recalled, and recall data may be incomplete, delayed, or out of date. Always check the official recall notice at https://www.saferproducts.gov before acting on anything the app shows you.
Your account record, items, photos, maintenance tasks, repair logs, push tokens, and the encrypted Apple refresh token remain stored until you delete your account. We keep no separate copy and no archive after deletion.
You can delete your account inside the app: open Settings, then tap Delete Account. Deletion hard-deletes your rows from our database and queues your photo objects for removal from Cloudflare R2. It also revokes the Apple sign-in grant using the refresh token described in section 2.1.
Deletion is immediate and irreversible. We cannot restore your data afterwards, and we cannot recover it for you.
You can also request deletion by emailing support@taomindapp.com.
Hearth is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, contact us and we will delete it.
As of the effective date above, Hearth is free. There are no in-app purchases, no subscription, and no advertising. We never receive or store payment data, because there is nothing to pay for.
If this policy changes, we will update the effective date at the top of this page, and we will note material changes in the app.
